Innovator Project – Competency tracker

The Competency Tracker is a tool that allows students to self assess their progress in 21C skills and values. Students will be required to support this self assessment with evidence (e.g. a piece of work) that a teacher can also refer when making their assessment. With data coming from both the student and teacher at regular intervals (every 3-4 weeks) this will help even out the inherent subjectively of make judgements on competency progress. The Competency Tracker will have both a Student and Teacher dashboard feature and allow teachers to assess what they value, rather than value what can be assessed.

Here’s what my initial prototype looked like:

Launch pitch (mine starts at 12:09)

I now have built the student form to collect the initial evidence and then had the response Sheet create a URL for a teacher review form.

Response spreadsheet with pre-filled URL for teacher form
Teacher form with pre-filled fields

Hint: if collecting links to Google Doc files, be wary of the Google Sheet URL. It ends with a “#gid=0” and was messing up the pre filled formula.

I have also spend a long time trying to figure out how to get the Dashboard interface working with Google Data Studio.

Next steps are to build the Teacher dashboard.
